DUMAGUETE CITY, October 5, 2021—Holy Cross High School (HCHS) celebrates World Teacher’s Day 2021
Teachers’ Day has been observed annually on the 5th of October since 1994. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Teachers’ Day marks the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers. Up to this day, everyone recognizes teachers’ efforts and contributions to education and development.
“Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery” is the theme` for this year’s World Teachers’ Day. This theme is timely given the current situation that everyone is experiencing. This does not, however, preclude us from honoring teachers who continue to shape the brains of students who will one day be effective followers and leaders in their communities.
This year’s celebration is anticipated to be mellowed because of the health difficulties presently experienced due to the pandemic. Unlike in the previous years, when teachers were honored with tributes, flowers, and gifts, Holy Cross High School kept it simple and meaningful. Even if the students were not physically present, greetings for their teachers still came virtually.
The day began with a live-streamed Holy Eucharist liturgy. Both parents and students were able to attend from the convenience of their own homes. Following the mass, faculty and staff engaged in a fun team-building activity. Lunch and snacks were served and adhered to the social distancing standards. Everyone enjoyed the rest of the day.
We may not be able to celebrate face-to-face, but our hearts are one in celebration of Teacher’s Day. To all our mighty teachers, Happy World Teacher’s Day!
