DUMAGUETE CITY, August 10,2021—More than 20 individuals greatly affected by the pandemic received food, water, and other basic essentials from the Grade 12 students of Holy Cross High School (HCHS) as part of the outreach program held to celebrate the feast day of their patron saint, John Vianney.

The Grade 12 batch of school year 2021-2022 from HCHS commemorated Wednesday, August 4, the feast day of Saint John Vianney (Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney)—the respected patron saint of diocesan and parish priests. Regardless of the online setting of school due to the pandemic, the class found ways to celebrate. In the morning, they attended an online mass administered by the school. Afterwards, they each had a feast in their own homes, as well as the teachers in school.

Grade 12’s celebration of St.John Vianney’s feast day became the catalyst of the outreach program that was organized on August 10 at Dumaguete City Highschool in Calindagan. In their own little way, the students provided aid for those seriously affected by the pandemic—the infected and quarantined individuals.

With over 30 students going hand in hand to donate food, water, and other necessities to contest the coronavirus, representatives of Holy Cross High School—Dr. Profetiza S. Lim, school principal; Gwendolyn T. Suson, guidance personnel; and Melfe C. Sayson, Grade 12 class adviser—delivered the donations to the health workers who then distributed the donations to the different barangays of Dumaguete with the quarantined persons. The smiles on their faces upon receiving the donations displayed their deep appreciation and gratitude.

Holy Cross High School is truly “gifted to give.” Even just with this small action against the coronavirus, the school hopes the nation will find the strength to recover.
